PICK OF THE MONTH – [sic], AN ENTHRALLING TALE

Hello guys! I’m getting a little irregular nowadays, aren’t I? Though my life is getting a bit hectic, I can never  get over my addiction to wattpad and nor do I want to.

In between my busy schedule, the one story that kept me addicted till the end was [sic].

Since I had previously read a romantic wattpad story, THE HOODIE GIRL, I was browsing to read a story from Mystery genre,when I found this really interesting and weird looking title and thought of giving it a try. Sometimes I just have this habit of not reading the brief intro of the story the author provides, because I do not like to know the details of the story before hand. So the title offering very little information, and me, having no clue as to what the story is, started to read it. Read on to find out my take on it.

GENRE: MYSTERY

The story is a very refreshing and a new one, nothing like I have ever read, not in wattpad, and not even from the novels I had read. The story revolves around a game, ‘Eureka’. It is not just a fun game, it is based on the psychology of the human mind, on how it responds and accepts the situations that are indirectly spelled out to us by the society.

David, the founder of Eureka, is fascinated by people characterizing themselves based on how the others want us to be. He starts experiments to try to see if he can change the way they perceive themselves and sometimes harming people in the way, but not really caring about its after effects. Jacob, is a friend of David and he, along with five others are involved in playing the game, Eureka, with David.

Eureka is a game in which a person, when tagged, has to change his/her life within 15 minutes. David believed that it brought out people to do things which normally they wouldn’t. As the game went on between these six high school students, there arises jealousy, ego, deception and some hard truth, which changes the their lives totally. But whatever the game did to them, it didn’t matter as they got addicted to it, which was the only source of constant change in their miserable life.

With the bumps along the way comes the real twist, the death of their leader, David.

The story starts off with the death of David, and Jacob explaining all about the game and the things it did to their life.

The story kept me hooked till the end. The author had did a very commendable job of detailing the intricacies of the human tendency, and paralleling it with their lives.

The last message from the story that, change is constant, that it is better to adopt to changes voluntarily, before change forces itself on us, just nailed the whole crux of it.

A brilliantly written piece worth every second to spend!

PICK OF THE MONTH – CONFESSIONS ABOUT COLTON

TITLE : CONFESSIONS ABOUT COLTON 
AUTHOR : OLIVIA HARVARD 

GENRE : MYSTERY 

Hello guys! For this month, my pick is, ‘Confessions about Colton’, which is a thriller story. This story is one of the few mystery stories that kept me in the edge of the seat, from the start to the time I completed it. 

The story opens up right in the middle of the strange plot, where Elliott Parker grieves for the death of his best friend, Colton. There was always a lot of mystery surrounding Colton, like the time he disappeared some time back and no one could find out where he was, but he came back without giving so much as an explanation. But this time, he was gone, for good. 

During the memorial service for his friend, Elliott gets a letter from the murderer of Colton, stating the reason for his murder will be revealed if he  would follow some things he mentioned in the letter and search for the next clue to the letter. 

Elliott was, at first, doubtful to take it up or not, but his curiosity to know the reason for his friend’s death  got the better of him and he started searching for clues and soon one led to an other, and he was baffled by the things he started learning about Colton, that, at one point, he felt like he never knew anything about his best friend. 

The things which were revealed by the clues, exposed a different side of his friend and also some details about what he did during his first disappearance. 
And in comes Colton’s girlfriend and Elliott’s sister into the plot and the mystery kept growing till the very end. 

The climax was the most powerful one of all. The twist in the end was just so unexpected and the plot was handled well. 

Kudos to the author for writing such a gripping tale and revealing things only what the readers needed to know in the beginning and directing the readers towards one thought  and opening out an entirely different thing in the end. ☺

PICK OF THE MONTH – TRAPPED, DEPRESSINGLY BRUTAL

Hello wattpaders, once again! After taking a long break from Wattpad and this blog, I am back with a bang with a very interesting and psychological thriller ‘Trapped’! Read on to find more about it.

TITLE: TRAPPED

AUTHOR: SALLY MASON

GENRE: MYSTERY

Kelsey Miller, a sixteen year old, was kidnapped, tortured and raped by two men for many months after which she finally escaped. She only knew one of the kidnapper and never knew the second person at the hands of whom she suffered the most. She was a virgin when she was raped brutally, and was left to bleed. She was shut in a cabin in woods and was raped repeatedly by both of the kidnappers and tortured mentally and was made to do things which would haunt her for life.

When she escaped after some months, she still was not able to identify the second kidnapper and the first kidnapper got away on a slight technicality. The horrors she underwent made her a dead person on the inside. She shut out everybody and spent her time trying to cope up and forget what happened, but instead spent time in relieving the past trauma. Her only pillar of support was her step brother, Luke, in whom she felt a safe haven.

When she was still in her depression, the most horrible thing that could ever happen to a survivor happened to her. She was once again forcefully taken by the same kidnappers, by mentally manipulating her by kidnapping an other virgin. Kelsey did not want anyone else to go through what had happened to her and so she fell into the trap again.

How did she come out of her second trap? And most importantly, who was the second kidnapper, who even eluded the police?

With a mix of a psychological thriller and a very powerful narrative of the pain a rape survivor goes through, the author clearly reflects the feelings of the Kelsey to the readers. A definite read for people with a thirst for psychological thriller.

DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS – DEEP IN MYSTERY

TITLE: DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS

AUTHOR: LILIANAHART

GENRE: MYSTERY

This one from the genre, ‘Mystery’ involves unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of a girl, Fiona. Dr.Graves is the coroner for a county under which this death falls under. The story follows up to the Dr.Graves trying to solve the mystery behind the death of this girl with some surprises sprung upon the way.

Dr.Graves was intrigued with the death of this small-town girl. There was no suspicious activities for her death. Yet, she seems to feel that there was. Her best friend, Jack Lawson, is trying to solve this case which comes up with interesting facts and packages. 

A popular mystery writer comes at her door step, and brings a color into her life. She feels good to be there with him. But the death of the girl still nags her mind. She feels that the obvious answer is not really answer.

I don’t want to reveal much as the other mystery stories as it would just spoil the suspense. But I’m sure that the twist will be worth it.

This is such an interesting, standard case,with twists and surprise details at the right turn. Hope you enjoy it.

STALKING SAPPHIRE – BOLD CHASES

Hi once again guys! I’m back again with a review from my favorite genre, Mystery!

TITLE: STALKING SAPPHIRE

AUTHOR: MIA THOMPSON

GENRE: MYSTERY

This is a story in the lines of a brave female person, who ain’t afraid to stop and catch serial killers.

She is actually a serial catcher who captures serial killers!

Cliche, right? Not until you hear the remaining.

She is from the wealthy family, where she can get whatever she needs, But she does not take interest in the type of things rich girls do, like shopping, partying, romance, love, gossiping. Instead, she takes an interest towards serial killers.

Sapphire watches for serial killers, hunts them down and hands them over to the police. But nobody, not even the police can find out who this person is, who does their job and hands them these killers. Also the captured guys are so ashamed of being captured by a girl that they never reveal any details about her.

Everything was smooth for our serial killer ‘catcher’, when the hunter becomes the hunted.  A serial killer kidnaps a girl and mocks her to rescue the girl, by sending a part of her body! Never had she felt anything like this, being put in a tight spot. She follows the clues and tries to find him, but he is always one step ahead of him. A police detective, Ashton, also is on the scent to find out more about the killers and this ‘catcher’. With him a few steps behind her, Sapphire is on a desperate hunt to save the life of the girl, which is dependent on her.

The story is good for female readers looking for a bit of mystery. It is fast and racy, yet a little predictable for those who have read mystery novels all their life. Yet, worth a shot for such a different kind of story.

PRODIGY – FUTURISTIC VIEW

TITLE: PRODIGY

GENRE: SCIENCE FICTION

Hi again guys! After a continuous review of mushy-mushy romantic stories, I took a break from them to read a fictional one. What better than a science fiction for a different change!

‘Prodigy’ looks through the present and stands on a story featuring in the future. The future, from the eyes the author, consists of people who, after the impact of World War III, tried to have a peaceful life and never to let an another war like that, affect the humanity. Everything was automatic; even reading something to remember does not take much effort, because they just upload it to brain like hard drive!

There were a certain group of people, who was prodigal in the society. Among them was Alex, a girl with an abnormally higher IQ. She stumbles upon a discovery that would put an end to the mankind. Also, like in anytime there are a group of people with this knowledge, who try to escape this, without disclosing it to the common citizens.

Alex tries to save the humanity from the doom that is going to happen. But in her quest, she is being burdened with various truths about herself and about the type of government they have.

This is a like a breath of fresh air, with each and every small thing is being detailed to give the story a feel of how the future would be. Kudos to the author!

A really cool story for all these sci fic lovers!

WHITE LIES – LIES TO LOVE

TITLE: WHITE LIES

‘White lies’ is a different kind of story in all ways. Usually the main character in the person would be shown with a good image and the plot of mystery is being forcefully dumped on the protagonist by the ‘evil’ character. But no so much here.

Jessabel Griffin, is a compulsive liar. She lies for……. well, she just lies. No reason. Even from a very younger age, Jess had the habit of lying. You would wonder how she got away with lying? The thing is she got away with it, alright, but not for a very long time. Sooner or later, she would be caught, not because she stumbled with her lies (no, she lied like a pro!) but because she would be caught with proof which says otherwise. And soon enough, everyone in the school learnt of how a habitual liar she is that she was branded as a social pariah. She was never had any true friends and she was okay with that.

Due to her spontaneous lying for no reason, she got caught in a murder investigation, in which she was the only witness to last see a hot and famous of their school, alive. She partially lied to the police about what she saw, then again to a group of another people. And soon enough, she became famous as the girl who witnessed the murder.

On her way to lying through teeth through this investigation, she is being asked to act with Nathan, the playboy kind of guy, to whom she lost her virginity. They both are asked to get inside information or any clues pertaining to the investigation. And as the romance brews between them, with the personal troubles from each of their own families, they stay together to uncover the real  murderer behind it.

A different kind of combination of mystery with romance to jazz up!

THE DAY – HOPEFULNESS

TITLE: THE DAY

GENRE: MYSTERY

This is the kind of story which involves the concept of time travel, but with a different kind of plot. It is not the usual go-back-and-change-the-past kind of story. Instead it chooses the concept of people dying with a last death wish on their mind to relive the day of the last person who died again and again,unless someone finds a way out of it.

Hailey, who was shot, is stuck into this timeline of reliving the day she died, with a bunch of guys who had died earlier. She makes one last wish to tell her best friend, Brent, that she loves him and this made her to get caught in middle of the transition between life and death.

Here she comes across Alex, whom she seems to fall for, putting Brent out back.Brent tries to fight for her love, competing with Alex. She carried forward her own destruction by making one last death wish and in her hands lies freedom for the others like her.

It is a fresh breath among the fiction stories that we had seen so far. Give it a try!

This concept actually makes me wonder that if one gets to relieve a particular day, what would it be? Will one change it or let it be? I personally would not want to change anything because it is a part of the journey of how i had become.

BEAUTIFUL DREAMER -IMAGINATIVE DREAMS

‘BEAUTIFUL DREAMER’ is an imaginative perspective about the narrow line between reality and dreams. The author tries to convey that the dreams that we conjure has an effect on the reality of life more than what we think. Also there is a fear embedded behind the lines of the story throughout, which brings out the feeling of a thriller.

Parker Elway, a normal teenage girl, starts having strange dreams. But she brushes it off, until her dreams seems to take a real shape. Her mom, who is strict and distant, does not believe her and takes her to a psychologist. As the days go on, her dreams becomes even more violent that she feels like someone is trying to kill her. She experiences anxiety every day in the night when she goes off to sleep that her innermost fears are going to be exposed.

With the help of her friend, she starts to comprehend the real story of her life and some of the visions of the past happenings. Together, they unearth the mystery about the Elway family line, which leads them to the happenings in the dreams that she sees.

On the other hand, her dreams are fast becoming so real and she gets the help of witch like girl to guide her back. The revelations about the truth, grasping on to the actual happenings and the difference between the reality and dreams is being clearly written for the readers to get a hold.

The last chapter of the book is what I loved the most where it narrates the way in which the common people perceive and the way in which the victim sees oneself. Overall, I would say that it is a refreshing one to go for.

SWEET REVENGE – DISGUISES

TITLE: SWEET REVENGE

This one is like a typical, commercial movie, where the concept of revenge is being introduced when there is something bad occurred in the past.

The story opens with Victoria, the sexy and beautiful girl, hiding behind a bush, waiting for her first target. Then we are introduced to the flashback, where the reason behind the girl lurking in the shadows is revealed.

Samantha had wealthy parents running a jewelry store, who were murdered by her friends whom she trusted. So to take revenge on them and make them pay, she takes the route to disguise and changes her appearance and her name to Victoria and plots her plan to take them out one by one.

In her path for revenge, she meets Alexanders who is an other rival to the friends-turned-enemies of Samantha. Together, they ruin the lives of each and every one of them.

This is for the readers who love cliched movies and commercial ones, it would be an interesting one.
